I recently heard someone explain the difference between spiritual opposition and temptation. They said spiritual opposition is an opportunity for growth and maturity that we should never back down from. With the Lord on our side we have endless strength, patience and energy to stand our ground – even against the strongest of foes.
On the other hand, they described temptation as a serious danger to our spiritual well-being. Not a test to be conquered, but an immediate threat that shouldn’t even be toyed with. Not only should we not stand our ground with temptation and rely on our will power, but our first reaction should be to flee and distance ourselves as much as possible.
Admittedly, I had never put the two in such distinct seperate categories before. The inspiration for the topic was Ephesians 6: 10-20. Take a few minutes to read and meditate on these verses and on the idea of spiritual opposition and temptation. I’d love to hear any thoughts the rest of you have on this.
